Lenovo's S12 page was not very descriptive so I called tech support to ask if this had the NVIDIA ION platform and was told yes, the 2959 has had the NVIDIA ION for a few months now. WRONG! Lenovo's site is constantly changing but accurate information is always lacking and so is their sales and tech support! The page for the machine I ordered - a 295954U now has more detailed information in the specifications and the video platform that came with mine is now described as "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950". There is now a new model number for the NVIDIA which was not available when I placed my order. I wouldn't have ordered this machine if I new I wasn't getting the NVIDIA platform. Also, the 160GB hard drive is not accurate because a large part of it is reserved for its system restore feature which is supposed to restore the hard drive back to either original condition or a later restore point. Mine did not work and I had to send it back to be re-imaged. Granted I tried a dual boot arrangement with Ubuntu Linux and fully utilized every bit of the drive. They do not include any backup CD or operating sytem CD and will not provide one if requested - another rip off! Had I had the disks I could have re-imaged it myself. Had a large portion of the hard drive not been allocated to the restore feature the dual boot would have worked no problem.

I will purchase a copy of Acronis True Image (or download a free OEM version (Seagate DiscWizard)). Be prepared to be without the PC for at least a week if the restore function fails, and if the unit is no longer under warranty be prepared to pay! Fortunately mine was brand new.

On a positive note, I like the size of the screen and the keyboard does work well, even with my xl mitts. Run time so far has been good and no complaints yet with the wireless connection. Got this laptop a few months back. i just loved it. The looks are awesome..its got a bronze tinge to it.looks great. the 4 GB of ram coupled with the dual core processor is just enough to do anything on this laptop. The graphics card however was the "no-so-satisfying" part of the laptop. it says 1918GB of shared memory but wont tell you how much is the dedicated memory. neither does the tech know about it. you cant play some high end games like need for speed-shift. Call of duty 4 only works well on low settings. now these games only need 512 MB of graphics memory and still dont work well with 1918MB which this laptop has. So i dont know where it falls short.
Apart from this graphics card thing..i think its an awesome laptop. totally worth the money. Bluray's work well, HD display is amazing, no problems whatsoever with the speed of applications. i dont knw why people complaint about the keyboard. works well for me! its only a problem at night with the lights off. I had to buy this for work, but my first experience when I started using it was that I couldn't see a darn thing. Our company has since gone on to work with a Lenovo ThinkPad, so apparently this Dell model didn't last long as an option. I went from the Dell Latitude D600 with a big, vibrant screen to this Dell Latitude D630 with a small screen and dull color reproduction screen. I am not a techie so forgive if I am not using the right terminology, but I will tell you that my eyes are suffering right now from using this computer. Computer vision strain is apparently a very real problem and I seem to be experiencing it more and more. If using your computer makes your eyes burn, makes you tired or gives you headaches, and you have neck and/or back pain, then you might be suffering from CVS as well. I do not recall feeling the same with my old Dell computer. Add to this that the speakers are very poor and mono-sounding. I just had to have the hard drive and the keyboard replaced (sticking key). They were both under warranty. This is after 1 3/4 years of daily use. Add to this that I am using this computer more and more. I am going to try to work on reducing my eye vision. I wear glasses for distance (near-sightedness), but computer vision falls between close and distant viewing. If I come up with a good idea, I will add it to my review. Amazon offers several types of computer glasses. I even looked up magnifying screens for laptops, but most options didn't seem set up for laptops. To put it mildly, using this computer is becoming an increasingly miserable experience. If I didn't have over $800 invested in this computer, I would not be using it and therefore I can't recommend it to anyone. In this day and age, a dull viewing experience is totally unacceptable. I did pull out an old pair of America OnLine tinted reading glasses (+.5 strength) that were most likely for computer use. They do seem to help somewhat but overall experience is still discouraging, frustraing, and for those of you who are addicted to using your computer, maddening.
I also am now experimenting with changing the number of dots per inch (dpi). I went to the Control Panel, Display, then Advanced and selected the option to increase the number of dots per inch from 96 to 120. It is one means of at least viewing the images and print more comfortably without the use of glasses. There may also be a way to enhance the color. I will check into it.
For viewing movies you will will miss out on a lot of the vibrancy of colors, and you will definitely want to add speakers or use headphones.

10.2"MINI Notebook Wimax Black Immediately

I am glad to have this unit. This is the third netbook I have owned, and the first one whose manufacturer did everything well. I find the rocker switch easier to use, the fit and finish to be first class, and the design to be well thought out. Unlike other units, the NC-!0 actually came with restore CDs - kudos to Samsung on that. The included backup software is nice. And yes, the SD slot really is there, it is just hidden a little too well (under the right front edge - covered by a plastic filler).

I found the WiMax to be slightly more sensitive than Motorola's USB WiMax device. My only complaint is that you can't use the built-in WiFi and the WiMax at the same time. Also, I wish the built-in WiFi was N, not G. But I use an external USB N with it and that works fine, when I need N.

I've had this computer for a few days now and I'm very pleased with it. I have a powerhouse desktop so I don't need much in the way of a laptop, just something to get me through a few classes and take notes. The battery life is excellent as far as I'm concerned. I had it on low brightness in power saver with wifi on and it got be about four and a half hours. I immediately took off Vista and put on 7. Vista seemed to run fine for the few hours I had it on, but 7 runs on it far better. Don't try and enable aero if you have 7, it just was way too choppy. Streaming youtube was better than other netbooks I've used. No choppiness at all. The computer is of course limited by the ability of the atom processor. However for $379, this is the best netbook you can get in my opinion. I originally had an HP Mini 110, and while it was cute and small, you get tired of a 10 inch screen after awhile. The 13" of the X320 is just big enough to view webpages without unnecessary scrolling.

A lot of people complain about the keyboard. As far as I'm concerned it's no big deal. Yeah it's a little "mushy" but I've had no problems typing on it at all. Yeah it flexes a bit when you type on it but you can't FEEL the flex if you're not looking at it. I read a lot of reviews that made me think that I'd be getting a laptop with a terrible keyboard. Believe me, it's more than bearable. Mac is a good OS with better user interface and integration than Windows. Better tech support than some of the larger sellers like Dell, Lenovo and HP. Smaller target from worm/virus attacks compared to Windows (this doesn't make Mac more secure, by the way). Better multimedia apps which are already part of the OS. Nice and hip design. I can see why so many people gravitate toward Apple products these days. Personally, though, I can't justify the extra cost for having a "cool" laptop. And those extra features I mentioned are not enough to sway many seasoned PC users away from Mac unless one has money to burn....so to speak.

I recently bought Dell Studio XPS16 with following configuration for my wife: 15.4-in screen, 2.53 ghz w/ 1033 FSB, 4 GB memory, 500 gb hard drive @7200 rpm, ATI graphic card with dedicated 512 mb memory. I paid about $1250 including tax (free shipping). My wife needs a solid performance to run memory-guzzling applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD and Autodesk Ravit.

Similar MacBook pro on Apple website (with smaller hard drive and integrated graphic card) comes out to about $1860 with tax (based on CA sales tax). One listed here on Amazon.com has lesser hardware specs than current one listed on Apple website, but is still selling for $1500. You can do the math. Cool design matters, but not for extra $250 to $600.

Apple makes good products and made mundane computing products into something fashionable. And it also knows people will pay premium to get it. I may decide to get Mac one day, but definitely not at its current pricing. I bought one of these litte netbooks for it's portability. My larger notebook is a pain to carry running through airports. I liked that it had the 6 cell battery, bluetooth and wireless N. I liked it so much I bought 2 more as gifts. I used a thumb drive to add all of my software such as office etc. No problems.
The only thing I do not like is they have a "warranty void if tampered" sticker over one of the screws that has to be removed to open the case to add another gig of memory. Yes I put the memory in anyway.
The owners manual is on the desk top in a PDF file which I do not have a problem with. In addition, unlike many netbooks, this unit comes with a recovery disk and the HANNspree is set up to boot off of the USB if needed.

This is a great laptop. It is a true thin and light ultra-portable laptop (at less than 4.6 lbs). Unlike most 13 inch models, this 14 inch comes with the optical dvd drive built-in and still provides with 6 hrs of usable battery life. It has a very compact feel when carried due to the very narrow tapered front. Performance has been fine for most of the common tasks so far and just having the 4gb ddr3 memory helps quite a bit. Another interesting thing is that this laptop remains cool even after 6 hours of continuous usage. The bright LCD screen and colors are really good too.

I bought a Toshiba Laptop in August and I have had an absolutely AWFUL experience with Toshiba since the day I got this thing. On several occasions I have met with INEPT Technical and Customer Service staff and whenever my call was forwarded to a "Manager" the person basically reiterated the feedback from the staff, and on two occasions were RUDE and absolutely NO HELP AT ALL. When I mentioned in my last call that Toshiba Executives need to know how their customers are being treated and that I CANNOT recommend their computers to anyone in good conscience, I was told "suit yourself." To give you an idea of ALL the headaches I have undergone since I bought my computer....here is a short list:

1) My computer came with Windows Vista and kept crashing. Toshiba's Tech. people said that it was due to "glitches" with the operating system and said that I would have to back up my data and re-install the OS. Remember people, this is a NEW computer that is supposedly under warranty! Their Tech. people also had the nerve to tell me that they "did not have the training" to tell me how to back up my data and once I took it to Best Buy and PAID to have my data backed up, then they could tell me how to reload the OS!

2)Also, when I purchased the computer, there was a catalog insert in the Toshiba packaging that offered a 3-year extended warranty for 15% off. However, when I called Toshiba to buy the warranty, AGAIN, their Customer NON-Service people quoted me a price that was almost $100 more than the price in the catalog and told me that they did not know anything about the reduced price offered to purchasers of new Toshiba computers. When I told them that the catalog was sent INSIDE the Toshiba computer box that was sent to me from Amazon.com, they told me that I would need to "find a Kinkos and fax a copy of the catalog" to them "for review" and they will "see if the management will honor it"!!!!!!!!!

3)Finally, to add insult to injury -- when I purchased this computer, I was offered a "FREE" upgrade to Windows 7, but when I went online I found out that I had to PAY almost $12 for "shipping and handling". Okay, I swallowed that insult, but THEN after 25 minutes entering all the order info. the Toshiba site would not allow me to enter in my Credit Card number to pay for the thing. When I called their Customer Service people, they had NO CLUE what to tell me. After 45 MINUTES -- and after talking with 4 different people -- they FINALLY transferred me to a "Manager" who ALSO had NO idea what to do and said that "I guess the website must be having problems, so try again later"!!!

Look, all I can say to anyone who wants to buy a Toshiba is BUYER BEWARE. Their Tech. people have NO CLUE, their Customer Service is INEPT and their Management is DISGUSTINGLY RUDE!!! Dealing with Toshiba is a NIGHTMARE!
